(Tulsa-AP) -- Top-ranked Woodward overcame an error in strategy late in the game to take a 40-37 overtime victory over Claremore in the Class Five-A girls championship today.

The score was tied 36-36 in the fourth quarter, when the Boomers stole the ball and ran down the clock.

Woodward then committed an offensive foul with eight-point-nine seconds left and sent the game into an extra period.

The Boomers scored four points in overtime, all coming at the free throw line. Claremore managed only one point in the period.

Claremore's Lindsay Young had 17 points.

Kala Bowers led the Boomers, scoring a team-high 19 points.
