(Tulsa-AP) -- A new poll shows Oklahomans are split on whether the country should have an Electoral College.

The Oklahoma Poll was taken by Consumer Logic and included 750 voters throughout the state. It shows 51-percent of people would prefer electing a president by popular vote.

About 40 percent of people polled say they still favor choosing a president through the Electoral College.

Al Gore won the popular vote this election, but lost in the electoral count.

Most people polled say a national vote-count standard is needed.

A recent national poll shows 61 percent of Americans would prefer a popular vote.
