OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Part of a street near the Bricktown Ball Park has been renamed to honor former baseball star Joe Carter.
The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to rename Stiles Avenue to Joe Carter Avenue, between Main Street and Reno Avenue.
Carter, a graduate of Millwood High School, played 16 years in the major leagues and had 10 seasons with 100-plus runs batted in. His Game 6 home run against the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Carter's admirers also are working to build a plaza and statue in his honor at the Bricktown Ballpark similar to one honoring Mickey Mantle.
