Tulsa punt returner WAC player of week

(Denver-AP) -- The Western Athletic Conference players of the week are Texas-El Paso wide receiver Lee Mays, San Jose State's Marshall Blount and Tulsa punt returner Donald Shoals.

-- Mays caught seven passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-to-31 UTEP victory over New Mexico State.

Mays needs only one more touchdown catch to tie the school record of 20 set by Reggie Barrett, who played for UTEP from 1986 to 1990.

-- Blount had seven tackles, six of them solo, in San Jose State's 29-to16 win over Rice. Blount had three sacks, all in the second half.

-- Shoals had his second punt return for a touchdown this season with a 41-yarder in Tulsa's 24-to-14 victory at Hawaii. He had a total of three punt returns for 72 yards.
