BOSTON (AP) — Pedro Martinez, scheduled to come off the disabled list next week, has been given the green light to pitch in the All-Star game if he makes the AL squad.
``There's no doubt I should be able to pitch,'' the Boston Red Sox ace said Tuesday.
Martinez said he has spoken with pitching coach Joe Kerrigan, and Kerrigan has left the decision up to him. The All-Star game is in Atlanta on July 11.
Martinez has a strained muscle on his left side and is eligible to come off the 15-day DL Tuesday. He threw in the bullpen Monday, reporting no problems, and was to throw again Wednesday in Minneapolis, where the Red Sox complete a series with the Twins.
Martinez (9-3) leads the AL in ERA (1.44) and strikeouts (140). He was winless in his last three starts before being put on the DL.
