(Miami-AP) -- Talks between Elian Gonzalez's Miami relatives and U-S immigration officials are to resume Thursday morning.

There was word earlier today that the two sides were at an impasse and that the talks at the Justice Department building in Miami had collapsed.

But the family's lead lawyer -- Spencer Eig -- says they'll keep talking. Eig says the family still believes Elian deserves his day in court.

The two sides have been trying to work out an agreement to transfer custody of the boy to his father, who's expected to travel to the U-S from Cuba shortly.

A Justice Department official says without such an agreement, immigration officials would send the Florida relatives a letter, formally transferring custody to the father.
