OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Senate has approved legislation to name a section of Oklahoma 37 near Tuttle the Jason White Passway in honor of the University of Oklahoma's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback.
But such honors would be restricted under a bill passed earlier today by a House committee.
Representative Fred Perry's bill would prohibit dedicating a section of highway or bridge until five years after a person's death.
Perry, a Tulsa Republican says the cost of road signs is taking away from the state's highway maintenance budget.
According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, road signs cost between 250-dollars and 4-thousand-dollars and maintenance and replacement costs for damaged signs runs thousands of dollars a year.
