DALLAS (AP) -- Oklahoma defensive back Reggie Smith has been named to the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given annually to college football's top defensive player.

Smith was one of 49 players chosen to the watch list for the award, which will be presented December third.

Last season as a sophomore, Smith made 41 tackles, broke up 8 passes and had 3 interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. He also was the team's main punt returner and played occasionally on offense, making one catch for 12 yards.

Two Oklahoma players have won the Nagurski Trophy. Safety Roy Williams won it in 2001 and cornerback Derrick Strait won it in 2003.

Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis won the award last year.
