The Rangers say Padilla has an irritated right triceps.
Rheinecker, who had been on the disabled list since the start of the season because of a strained back, was activated and took Padilla's place.
Rheinecker pitched eleven scoreless innings in two rehabilitation starts for Triple-A Oklahoma.
Padilla is 2-8 with a 6.45 ERA this season.
Texas also activated utilityman Jerry Hairston Junior from the 15-day disabled list, optioned outfielder Nelson Cruz to Oklahoma and designated utilityman Matt Kata for assignment.
Hairston played 23 games for the Rangers, batting .234 with one homer and three RBIs before going on the disabled list May 17th with a pinched nerve in his neck.
