CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- About 360,000 pounds of old explosives from U.S. Army munitions are now in Oklahoma for disposal. The explosives were moved to the U.S. Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester after an accident ended plans to use them for blasting coal mines in West Virginia.
Numerous employees suffered nosebleeds, rashes and respiratory problems after unexploded ordnance containing the explosives began showing up in coal from the mine.
The explosives are called tetryl boosters and were taken to McAlester by truck and demilitarized.
