OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The Oklahoma presidential primary would be three days earlier under a bill pending in the state Legislature.
The proposal by Representative Trebor Worthen would move the primary to Saturday, February second, next year and was passed by a House committee today. It would allow the state to join South Carolina in holding the second primary in the nation following New Hampshire.
Iowa and Nevada hold caucuses that would come before the Oklahoma vote.
Worthen says the earlier date would bring more attention to Oklahoma from candidates in both parties.
Several other states are also considering moving up their date for primary elections and state Election Board Secretary Mike Clingman says such a move in Oklahoma could lead to a chain reaction by those states.
