STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Karen Hancock plans to step down as the Cowgirls' head soccer coach, with co-head coach Colin Carmichael taking over as the team's top position.

Hancock has been the head women's soccer coach at Oklahoma State since the program's inception in 1996.

Carmichael came to Oklahoma State with Hancock in 1996 and was elevated to the position of co-head coach before the 2005 season.

Hancock's husband Will Hancock died six years ago in a plane crash that took the lives of ten men associated with Oklahoma State's basketball program.

She says as a single mother, the job responsibilities of head coach take up too much time.

The coaching switch still must be approved by the Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents.
