A loophole in the Oklahoma law on pseudoephedrine sales could be closed by January. Right now, people are restricted to a 30 day limit of the cold remedy, the equivalent of about six and a half boxes. But people can buy more if they shop at several stores, because there's no way to check.
Right now it's a paper based system, kept at individual pharmacies. Pharmacist Jim Brown with Freeland-Brown Pharmacy: "We would not know if people went to Walgreen’s, or Wal-Mart or Albertsons next door."
The new system will link every pharmacy in the state to make sure customers don't buy more than allowed. Eventually the database will be nationwide.
