NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- A group in Norman is raising money to build a statue and plaza in honor of actor James Garner.

The 10-foot statue would stand in the plaza and face the Sooner Theatre in Norman. It would cost an estimated $185,000.

Garner was born James Bumgarner in Norman in 1928 and starred in the television series' "Maverick" and "The Rockford Files" and in numerous movies.

A dedication for the plaza and statue is tentatively set for April 21st and Garner is being invited to the event.
