OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Those who died on the USS Oklahoma will be remembered in a memorial at Pearl Harbor.
The US House Wednesday approved an amendment Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole attached to the defense bill that authorizes military pay increases.
429 men died when the battleship capsized after the 1941 attack by the Japanese. Only the USS Arizona had more battleship casualties that day.
According to a story from The Oklahoman's Washington bureau, Cole's language requires the Navy and the Interior Department to identify a site on Ford Island, Hawaii, for the memorial and gives the agencies a year after the bill becomes law to present a plan to Congress for the memorial.
