Actor James Garner to be honored in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Actor James Garner is to be on hand when a statue of him is dedicated during a ceremony this evening in Norman.

Garner was born James Bumgarner in the Norman area in 1928 and the dedication at the James Garner Commemorative Plaza and is part of a week honoring him.

Garner will also serve as grand marshal of Norman's '89er Day Parade Saturday morning.

Garner has starred in numerous movies and is well known for the television shows "Maverick" and "The Rockford Files."
