Governor Kevin Stitt responded to speaker of the house Charles McCall and Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat on the new gaming compacts with the state and the Comanche Nation and the Otoe-Missouria tribe.
In a letter Governor Stitt says the Oklahoma Constitution gives him the power to negotiate these compacts but says in part;
"While the power is exercised via statute, it is unquestionably the case that any requirement that individual agreements or compacts negotiated by the Governor on behalf of the State with other sovereigns, such as Indian tribes, be approved by the Legislature would violate the principles of separation of powers."
40 non-gaming compacts in effect between the state and various sovereign Indian Nation Tribes within Oklahoma.
Stitt also drew attention to approximately 40 non-gaming compacts in effect between the state and various sovereign Indian Nation Tribes within Oklahoma.
