Lifetime Fitness in Oklahoma City is the first of their gyms to reopen nationwide in the wake of COVID-19.
Both Governor Kevin Stitt and the Founder of Lifetime will be touring the facility Friday morning.
Lifetime says it is reopening because health clubs are part of phase one of the governors reopening plan. Other gyms across the state have already reopened even before Friday.
Another big reason the club decided to reopen is because of member confidence. In a survey the company took, around two thirds of members in OKC felt safe to return to the gym.
People have been able to enter the building since 5 a.m. Friday, and they'll notice new safety measures in place including face masks and social distancing.
Overall, Lifetime says this will be a step by step process that may have some learning moments along the way.
"Being the first to reopen we have to make sure we do it in a smart way. We want to make sure we are talking to the team, we want to make sure that everyone is well grounded in what is an excess of a 400 page protocol cleaning this area," said Jason Thunstrom of Lifetime.
Lifetime says their next location to open is also in Oklahoma, just up the turnpike in Tulsa. That location plans to open next week.
