The Oklahoma State Senate honors a former member whose life was shaped by a tragedy at a young age.
56-year old former Senator Brooks Douglass died at his home in Texas after a long bout with cancer. He was just 16-years old when his parents were murdered in a home invasion. Douglass and his sister were also both shot.
"And he was a survivor and he spent the majority of his life trying to fight for crime victims and to honor his family members who were so brutally slain. Brooks got elected to the senate at age 27 and served honorably here."
He later forgave the shooter and was the inspiration for the movie "Heavens Rain". You can view the full memorial posting here.
