Inmate Found Dead In Oklahoma County Detention Center

The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office said an inmate was found dead in a cell just before 10 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities said Matthew Mason, 35, used his bed sheets as a noose and hanged himself.

Detention center staff tried to resuscitate Mason but were not successful.

Mason was booked into the jail Thursday for a complaint of violation of a victim's protection order.

Mason's death is the first detention center death of the year.

The sheriff's office said the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office will make the final determination of Mason's cause of death.
