A prominent teacher accused of sending inappropriate messages to a former student had his certificate suspended Thursday.
The Oklahoma State Board of Education voted quickly and unanimously on the decision.
Alberto Morejon is a Stillwater Jr. High social studies teacher.
He was once an organizer of the 2018 teacher walkout, leading a Facebook page of thousands.
The page has since changed its name and leadership and is not associated with Morejon.
Earlier this month, the Stillwater Police Department began looking into Morejon, after a parent contacted officers about their child’s communications with him.
According to documents, the former student whom Morejon was communicating with is 16 but was 14 when he allegedly began contacting her on Instagram.
Investigators said the messages Morejon sent to the girl included photos and flirtatious language.
Last week Morejon was arrested and charged in Payne County with lewd or indecent proposal to a child using technology.
Records show he appeared in front of a judge Tuesday and entered an initial plea of not guilty.
Morejon is expected to appear in court again on July 6.
