An Edmond man trying to save his son drowned Wednesday in Fort Cobb Lake, authorities said.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 42-year-old Casey Satterlee jumped in the lake to rescue his 8-year-old son who had fallen off a floaty. Authorities said the boat drifted away due to the wind. A second child, 12, remained in the boat and called 911.

The 8-year-old was able to swim to shore and was located. Saterlee was later recovered by the Twin City Fire Department.

News 9 has learned Satterlee was a teacher at Putnam City North High School and an advocate for public education.
