Some metro residents are now asking for a local church to close its doors, as abuse and harassment allegations surface. Almost 3,000 people have signed a petition saying they want the church to cease operations immediately.
The online petition is called Shut The Doors Now, as many have come forward stating the church has a history of sexual abuse, harassment, discrimination, and unsafe working conditions.
Petitioners said they want church founders, Kirk and Nancy Pankratz, along with their staff and board,to be held accountable.
“The pastors are the owners, there is no accountability above them,” said Eric Herrera, former member of the church. “There's nobody to force them to honesty.”
News 9 reached out to the church pastors who released a statement saying in part:
"No church or organization is perfect, and we are in numerous meetings and having dialogue with various parties to carefully listen to valid concerns, to review every aspect of our ministry and staff. We will continue to be a church who cares for this community."
According to Edmond and Oklahoma City police, there are no criminal investigations into this matter at this time.
Nikiera Everett is a former intern with the church, she said she was treated unfairly and asked to work long days.
“Working incredibly long hours, we had to work 18 to 21 hours a day,” said Everett. “I had to do mindless tasks, basically to break me down so by the summer time I was in a very mentally low place.”
Kirk Pankratz in a service last week said the church was aware of certain comments posted on social media and that they would investigate the matter. News 9 will provide updates as this story develops.
