Highs today will reach the upper 80s to near 90 with slight chance of additional storms later this afternoon and tonight. The rest of the week features slowly increasing humidity followed by a few storm chances across mostly northern OK and southern Kansas.
A complex of storms plowed across northwestern OK into southcentral sections of the state earlier this morning. While this batch stayed well west of us, some storm activity did move across part of eastern OK overnight. Most of this activity is already removed from the metro, but some storms may linger for the next few hours across far eastern and southeastern OK before ending early this morning.
Once this early morning storm chance exits, another small chance for storms will arrive later this afternoon across far southeastern Kansas and extreme northeastern OK as a weak boundary nears from the north. A much higher likelihood will arrive later tonight across southeastern OK. A stronger push of any outflow boundaries from this morning could focus higher chances later tonight across southeastern OK and north TX. Frankly, it’s impossible to know with any certainty at this point, but my forecast will keep the higher chances confined to southeastern OK for late tonight into pre-dawn Tuesday.
What seems to be likely, is that we’ll have slowly increasing humidity values Wednesday and Thursday, as the front to our south begins lifting northward Thursday into Friday. Most data support a small disturbance bringing a chance for a few storms Wednesday across far northern OK and southern Kansas followed by a few more storm chances Thursday night into part of Friday. These probabilities will remain low and mostly to the north.
This weekend, the ridge of high pressure currently positioned to our west may attempt to expand slightly eastward bringing increasingly warm and muggy weather across the state, but this will not be our main feature of interest. Most data also support a small short wave lifting into the central Plains. We’ll need to keep a slight chance of storms for the weekend, and mostly across far northern OK and southern Kansas.
And thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
