My 2 Cents: ‘Jumping The Shark’ As Some Call For Name Change Of Eskimo Joe's

There's an expression made popular in recent years rooted in one of the final episodes of the legendary sitcom Happy Days.

They were obviously out of sensible storylines but were desperate to hold onto all those interested viewers.

So, they had Fonzi jump a shark tank on his motorcycle.

You knew the series was doomed. Hence the expression "It jumped the shark".

That's what immediately came to my mind when I saw that a petition from Change.Org was going around demanding that Stillwater's “Jumpin' Little Juke Joint" Eskimo Joes, was being pushed to drop their iconic brand because it's racially insensitive.

Now in the wake of toppled Civil War statues, Columbus monuments set on fire, Founding Fathers tagged with graffiti, a woman from out of state has been triggered by the toothy Eskimo Joe and his dog Buffy?

The owner of the famous Stillwater hangout has been diplomatic saying he's listening to public input, but it ain't happening folks.

A few years ago, it was reported that the Joes T-shirts were the second most popular in the United States behind only the Hard Rock.

It's a multi-million-dollar Eskimo empire.

The petition so far has some 1,500 signatures, BUT a new counter-petition to keep the brand as it is already has MORE THAN 9,000.
