An Oklahoma City man is behind bars at the Oklahoma County jail after he was accused of shooting at a local marijuana dispensary he was turned away from.
Employees said Michael Sexton, 28, got angry because they would not sell to him because he gave them a tribal card.
Cameras are always rolling at American Cannabis near SW 59th and South Western Avenue.
Earlier this week, employees and co-owner Mel Graham were thankful for the extra security. Graham said in only a matter of minutes, Sexton went from handing over IDs to pulling out a gun.
“He started to get upset and I continued to say I’m so sorry,” said Graham, dispensary owner. “If you have your card we’ll be more than happy to take care of you.”
Sexton gave the employee an Oklahoma driver’s license and a tribal card to buy weed. They had to turn him away because he did not have a medical marijuana card.
What happened next came as a complete shock to Graham, and it was all caught on camera.
As Sexton pulled out of the parking lot, he pointed the gun out his window and fired into the air. He fired a second time and aimed it at Graham and another customer, who were standing at the front door.
“As he left, he got into his vehicle and was driving off,” said Oklahoma City police Sgt. Megan Morgan. “That’s when he fired one round out of his vehicle towards the business. Fortunately, he didn’t hit any of the employees,”
Employees quickly called police.
Officers caught up with Sexton a short time later and arrested him on a drive-by shooting complaint and illegally owning a gun.
“He’s definitely blackballed from American Cannabis for the rest of his life,” Graham said.
Sexton's bond was set at $100,000.
