Newly released video shows what lead up to a deadly officer-involved shooting in The Village earlier this year. The officer involved has since been charged with manslaughter.
Back on July 25, officers were called to the home near Pennsylvania Avenue and Britton Road. While there, they said Christopher Poor pulled out a baseball bat, leading to an officer shooting him.
“A couple of people that live here together were not getting along,” said a local neighbor. “Another party came along to collect a few belongings and asked police to come by just to keep the peace.”
You can see in the video the officer, Chance Avery, is pointing his weapon at 49-year-old Christopher Poor who is holding the bat. You can hear Avery telling Poor to drop the bat multiple times before shooting Poor three times.
According to a neighbor, a woman inside the home ran to her neighbor’s house saying, “They just shot my husband, they shot Chris, they killed Chris.”
Poor was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Friday, District Attorney David Prater filed manslaughter charges against Avery, however he is not in police custody at this time. Some who live in the neighborhood said they were shocked after hearing the news.
“It's a tragedy and I hope it doesn't happen anywhere else,” said one neighbor.
