A 12-year-old boy died after being shot Wednesday night in Midwest City, police said.
The shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. at the Sand Hills Apartments, 1424 N Midwest Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they found several bystanders trying to provide first aid to a 12-year-old boy who was shot in the chest.
The victim was reported as a runaway from Midwest City and was taken to OU Medical Center where he died.
Witnesses told police they saw several teens in front of an apartment in the complex when shots were fired. The people ran away and that was when the 12-year-old was found on the ground.
“Currently, our agency is trying to locate any witnesses present at the time our victim was shot,” Chief Brandon Clabes said. “We are classifying the investigation as a homicide at this point and will have a better understanding as to what took place once we gather the facts.”
Police notified the boy's parents but have not released his identity.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the Midwest City police at 405-739-1388 or 405-739-1306.
