Irving Middle School will move to distance learning on Monday after a case of COVID-19 on campus.

The district says the school was forced to go virtual after a high number of faculty and staff members called out.

District leaders sent a letter to Irving faculty and staff saying the pattern started on Saturday morning with 20 call outs in 30 minutes. The letter states that the pattern of taking leave could be in violation of their contractual agreement.

In a letter sent to parents, the Irving principal says many of the teachers who called out were not in close contact with the person who tested positive.

However, the principal did say the school's administrative team and counselors were exposed. They will be in quarantine for 14 days.

In the meantime, district leadership will be filling in at Irving, administrators and counselors will be available virtually for parents and teachers.

Middle school students at Norman Public Schools were expected to fully return to traditional learning on Monday.

Last week, middle school students were on an alternating schedule.

Students at Irving are expected to return to the classroom on Tuesday, October 6th.
