A man was arrested after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the Devon Boathouse in Oklahoma City, police said.
Police said the incident took place a day after the suspect, Willie Cannon, was released from the state Department of Corrections' custody where he served time for a previous charge.
Last Thursday, police said they were called out to the Devon Boathouse on a report of an assault.
"The suspect entered the facility,” said Sgt. Megan Morgan with the Oklahoma City Police Department. “It is a closed facility but he was able to enter and pretended to sign in and asked to use the restroom."
A short time later, the victim said she heard a door close to the gym where only members were allowed.
"When she went up there she noticed that the suspect was in there and when she confronted him the suspect turned on her and that is when the interaction became violent,” Morgan said.
The police report stated the victim told Cannon it was for members only and he needed to leave. Then, Cannon asked how she knew he was not a member.
The incident report went on to say he became angry, threw the victim to the ground and began grinding on her and choking her until she said she felt like she was going to die.
Someone in the boathouse heard the victim and called police, who showed up in minutes. They arrested Cannon at the scene.
Court records showed Cannon is a registered sex offender and has served time for multiple indecent exposure convictions among other things.
Now, Cannon sits in in the Oklahoma County jail on charges for felony aggravated assault and battery, forcible oral sodomy, rape in the first degree and
sexual battery.
He has not bonded out.
