A Tulsa neighborhood now has a new health clinic at Ellen Ochoa Elementary School.
The clinic will provide affordable medical and dental health services, including a new pharmacy, and could help thousands of patients.
Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum said the new Community Health Connection Clinic will bring much-needed aid for residents near 31st and Garnett.
This clinic is different from others. It's on the campus of Ellen Ochoa elementary school. Union Public schools Superintendent Kirt Hartzler said this is a first for the state
"We think this concept is the first one in the state of Oklahoma and it is certainly one of the very few throughout the nation,” Hartzler said.
Mayor Bynum said the location will allow the school and clinic to become a hub for enhanced medical and educational resources, along with creating a welcoming community, especially for the city’s growing Hispanic population.
“We can tell them they can get a great education in this part of our city. They can get great healthcare in this part of our city,” Bynum said. “We are creating, thanks to councilor Dodson’s leadership, great jobs in this part of our city. Every time you walk in here, I hope you see a facility that reflects how much this city is grateful that you are here and that we want this to be the best city it can be for you and your family."
Officials said the clinic could help more than 15,000 patients every year and will even provide services for those who are uninsured.
People living nearby said they are in one word, grateful, or as they say it in Spanish, agradecido.
