As an accounting specialist, Corrine Huguez knows how to handle money, especially when it comes to charity.
“I knew right away where I wanted to donate that money to," Corrine said.
Corrine works for The Boldt Company.
The construction firm is celebrating its 131st anniversary by giving 131 employees nationwide $500 to donate to the charity of their choice.
Corrine was one of two employees selected in the Oklahoma City office.
“That’s what the Boldt family wanted to do, they wanted to put this in the hands of the employees and let them own that," said Jeff Shipley, Executive VP and GM of The Boldt Company southern operations.
Corrine’s charity of choice is the OKC Crisis Nursery, which helps parents in need have a safe space for their children.
“It’s insane how many needs are coming in right now. I would say three to four times what we’d usually see," said OKC Crisis Nursery Executive Director Jennifer Roberts.
In 2020, a year that has been so difficult on nonprofits, the crisis nursery said this donation came at a perfect time.
“We were obviously worried with the pandemic when it hit, our fundraisers, we weren’t able to do them. It’s really reassuring knowing that we can keep our doors open and keep going," said Roberts.
Corrine isn’t stopping yet. She constructed her own fundraiser for the crisis nursery, with the original goal of raising $500.
She reached that in a few days, so she upped the goal to $750.
“I feel so fortunate to be able to assist. I’m a firm believer, it’s a blessing to bless,” said Corrine.
