A man and his 4-year-old granddaughter are dead after authorities said they were stabbed by a family member in Chickasha.
Dispatchers said they received a 911 hang up call Tuesday evening from a home in the 200 block of West Minnesota Avenue in Chickasha. Officers stopped by the home for a welfare check.
“They attempted to make contact with the homeowner to make sure everything was OK,” said Brook Arbeitman, OSBI Spokeswoman. “When they approached the door, they heard someone inside calling for help.”
Officers forced their way into the home. Inside were Leon Pye, 67, and his granddaughter Kaeos Yates, 4, both stabbed to death.
Pye’s wife, Delci, and the suspect, Lawrence Anderson, 42, were also inside the home and injured.
Delci was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Anderson was arrested by Chickasha police at the scene and then taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is expected to survive.
“Sadly, their granddaughter was just visiting her grandparents, terrible case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Arbeitman.
Anderson is Leon’s nephew.
OSBI agents are working to figure out what led up to the stabbing. They said a knife was recovered from the home.
“At this point in time that is still part of the investigation,” said Arbeitman. “Obviously, this happened yesterday evening. We were called in to help around 9 p.m. Our agents worked the case all night long.”
Anderson remains in the hospital. He’ll be taken to the Grady County Jail as soon as he’s released.
