With this winter madness putting a halt on many activities, on top of already being open on certain days, the zoo will keep its doors shut until next Thursday.
“It is allowing us to save those dollars on the operational side. Temperatures like this people are not going to be getting out,” said Candice Rennels with the OKC Zoo.
They say they have plans to reopen on February 18th, which advanced plans are required.
If you had plans to spend valentine’s day at the zoo, those who reserved a ticket have their plans pushed back to the following weekend.
As for the cold weather, the animals will be just fine.
“There are permitters in place for all of the animals. Some species like the cold weather like the bison and the red panda” said Rennels.
With close to twelve hundred animals calling the zoo home, team members work tirelessly to make sure this Oklahoma weather does not affect them.
Some of those warm-weather animals are getting some special treats and toys to have some fun while they are unable to go outside.
