Troopers fatally shot a suspect on Wednesday during a standoff in Vici, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said on Thursday.

Troopers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's tactical team were assisting the U.S. Marshals about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday when a suspect barricaded himself inside a home.

The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Michael Richard Stambaugh and he was wanted on a felony warrant in Canadian County.

Negotiations lasted for several hours with Stambaugh before he stepped out of the home about 5:15 p.m. with a firearm, troopers said.

The tactical team fired upon Stambaugh and he died at the scene.

Stambaugh was accused of engaging in sexual abuse of a child.

The troopers involved in the shooting were not identified but they were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

No law officers were injured in the incident.
