The Oklahoma City Convention Center will be ready for visitors starting Saturday.

This new $288 million convention center is a part of the MAPS 3 program.

MAPS 3 was a way to improve life in Oklahoma City with taxpayers' pennies.

From 2010 to 2017, the city added an additional penny to residence taxes resulting in a debt-free convention center.

Here's what's in the convention center:

  1. Virtual sky ceiling
  2. Two atriums
  3. Exhibit hall
  4. 45,000 square feet of meeting rooms
  5. A massive ballroom and kitchen
  6. A balcony overlooking scissortail park.

This was done with one goal in mind - to continue making Oklahoma City a spot where people want to live and travel to.

"It will propel our tourism industry and our tourism economy to a new level," said OKC Mayor David Holt. "Sure, a lot of cities have a convention center, but what makes it unique is the large urban park across the street."
