'Pioneer Woman' Gives Update On Nephew, Husband After Crash While Fighting Grass Fire

The Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond posted another update on how her nephew and husband are doing after a collision while they were battling a grass fire.

'Pioneer Woman' Ree Drummond's husband and nephew are home from the hospital, after both were injured when they crashed into each other while fighting fires on their ranch last week. The injuries to Drummond’s husband were much worse than first thought.

The crash happened on Wednesday, March 10th.

Ree posted an update on her website, announcing her husband Ladd and nephew Caleb are both going to be OK, adding that instead of wishing the accident didn't happen, she's going to "live in a state of gratitude."

Ree said Caleb had a pretty bad concussion, and now he is recovering from a few other injuries, including some broken ribs.

Ladd broke his neck in two places. Ree said one of the fractures was "very close to being catastrophic."

She said Ladd drove himself to the hospital in Pawhuska and was later taken to Tulsa. This is after initially refusing treatment. Ree said that was in part because he wanted the paramedics to focus on Caleb, adding, "cowboys don't like to admit when they're hurt."

Ree is also sharing new pictures from the scene. They show heavy damage to both fire trucks, after they hit head-on. The OHP said the high winds made it difficult to see on the gravel road where they crashed.

The report said neither man was wearing a seat belt, and Ladd's truck did not have one.

In the post, Ree thanked everyone for their prayers and support, and thanked the medical team at St. John, saying they had an "amazing neurosurgeon."

The Pioneer Woman also gave a shoutout to the Wendy's next to St. John, saying "Frosties are truly medicinal in these situations."

She shared that they are thankful he will recover, although he'll have a neck brace while healing up.

Drummond thanked everyone again for the outpouring of support and prayers for them.

"So rather than wish the accident didn’t happen, I’m gonna live in a state of gratitude—not just for the guys being okay, but also for the love, kindness, and prayers of so many of you. Thank you all so very much for reaching out to our family and for keeping us in your hearts through the past several days," Drummond said.
