Oklahoma Employment Security Commission created a hotline to help streamline the process to get a 1099-G form, but many Oklahomans are still struggling to get the form.

The spike in unemployment in the past year is making tax season more stressful as many Oklahomans are having to fill out a 1099-G form for the first time.

After a few failed attempts to get her 1099-G, Elizabeth Rhoades called Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.

“They sent me to a 1099 hotline because they said a lot of people haven’t been getting their 1099s, and they said they put in the request to get my 1099 emailed over to me. I have called every week since then at least twice a week, and they keep telling me that ‘they can’t see the request,' they just know it is pending,” she said.

She said the hotline was useful in getting it requested, but not timely. Three weeks later, she is still waiting for the form.

“I even asked. I said, ‘can you tell me where it’s at? Where I am on the list to be receiving it? Anything?’ and they said ‘No, the only thing that hotline can see is that we’ve sent the request,'” said Rhoads.

We tool that question to OESC, the department says it has responded to most of the calls but there are still thousands more to get to.

“If I had to give a number, I would say we’ve had probably around 30-40,000 calls and we are down to under 5,000 responses at this point from all of those, we have responded to the rest,” said Shelley Zumwalt, the executive director of OESC.

Zumwalt said Oklahomans should hear back in two weeks, but if they have not, keep calling and checking the status of their request.

“Obviously, we are going to get those responses to people as soon as possible, and we are prepared to get them to them before April 15,” Zumwalt said.

The IRS has extended the tax deadline for Oklahoma to June 15 because of our winter storms.

The hotline for the 1099-G form is 405-521-6099.
