The Tulsa Police Department and Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office will partner with FC Tulsa for a program called “Project eNGAGE.” The hope is for law enforcement to build relationships with at-risk youth in the community.

Officers and deputies will eat dinner and play video games with members of the youth in an attempt to build trust in the community, according to Officer Sean Terrell with the Tulsa Police Department. The monthly meetings will also include a guest speaker.

Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell will be in attendance to address the crowd. Future speakers include Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin and business leaders around Tulsa.

Officer Terrell said there has been a lot of interest from law enforcement to get involved. He said these experiences are just as important for them as it is for the youth so they can continue to build trust and positivity in Tulsa.

“It was really just an effort to say how can we think outside the box and try something new in order to reach these kids that otherwise may not feel comfortable being around police officers,” said Officer Terrell. “We want to create an environment where they do feel comfortable, where they’re having fun.”

The event will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Tulsa Dream Center.
