The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a 4-year-old girl is now safe after being abducted in north Texas. Troopers found the girl in Edmond Monday night.

OHP received the alert from the U.S. Marshall’s Task Force that the suspect had crossed the Red River into Oklahoma.

"Marshall's service actually contacted our field troopers in Oklahoma City," said Trooper Eric Foster, with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. "They had an approximate location of the vehicle."

One trooper quickly spotted the vehicle on Interstate 35.

"He was able to get behind it, call in for other units," said Foster. "Once more troopers got there, the vehicle exited the interstate.”

The driver then pulled into an OnCue gas station off East 15th Street in Edmond.

"Where we have a lot of people around, we know that there's a child in the vehicle and possibly a dangerous person," said Foster.

Troopers were able to get the child out of the car, unharmed. The driver was identified as Leonard Oran Allen. Investigators said he’s the girl's father but does not have custody.

"It could have been one way or the other," said Foster. "We're grateful that we were able to secure that child very safely."

Authorities said he’s also a registered sex offender, wanted out of South Dakota.

Allen is being held at the Logan County Jail and is facing federal charges. Officials are still investigating how the abduction happened and how long Allen had the girl. Troopers said no one was hurt during the incident.

OHP said the girl was taken to the U.S. Marshall’s Service where they were able to contact her mother.
