The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office will go live with its first-ever body camera Thursday.
Deputies and detectives will be using 60 body cameras in total.
The sheriff's office also purchased 11 car-systems for the transport division, which will monitor both the front and backseats of the vehicles
Sheriff Chris Amason promised these bodycams before he was elected sp that the sheriff's office can be more transparent. He says they'll provide another layer of accountability and can be used as an important investigative tool in cases.
"As technology comes around, the average juror does look for more technologically sound evidence in the courtroom," said Lieutenant Weston Sterling. "They want to be wowed by the forensic side of things, and what's actually going into what happened."
The Cleveland. Co. Sheriff's office will be joining the Norman Police Department who implemented body cameras back in 2017.
Before going live Thursday, the sheriff's office has done extensive training to make sure all their deputies and detectives are prepared.
When the purchase was made it totaled near $274,000.
