The Gold Dome sits locked behind a chain link fence at the corner of the NW 23rd and Classen Boulevard.
For years, people have passed the old bank building from 1958 and wondered what could become of the Gold Dome.
Temple Live, out of Arkansas, now has plans to transform the historical building into a live concert venue.
“We are bullish on the market, the location. We have a history of developing historic properties around the country and converting them into a multi-use live entertainment space,” said Mike Brown, vice president of Temple Live.
Brown said it’s still very early goings for the project.
The company has transformed old buildings into new venues in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Wichita, Kansas, and Cleveland, Ohio.
The former Masonic Lodge turned concert site in Fort Smith has a capacity of 1,200 people.
Brown said it’s way too early to estimate the concert capacity of the Gold Dome.
"Our appraisal even said the highest and best use was to tear it down. We are doing all we can to avoid that. We are looking closely with state historic preservation as well as the city and the state,” said Brown.
The current owner of the Gold Dome told News 9 Temple Live is expected to close on the property this summer.
The City of Oklahoma City said it has no comment on potential incentives that may be made available to make the sale final.
Brown thinks city leaders appear to be on board.
“We've had good outreach from the mayor’s office and everyone seems to be in support of the project,” Brown said.
