A mother of four was sleeping with her children on an air mattress when the unthinkable happened.
The mattress had a hole in it and collapsed in the middle of the night, suffocating the newborn.
“This is a mom that really cares about her children, she is a great mom. There was no foul play she just needed a bed for her child,” said Jennifer Roberts, the Founder of Oklahoma City Crisis Nursery.
She said this story is all too common, so she decided to raise awareness on Facebook. The post asking for crib and bed donations.
“Other moms reached out, they are afraid to ask for help because they are afraid that their children will be taken and that is not the case. We want to help them, and it is OK to ask for help,” said Roberts.
Now Oklahoma City Crisis Nursery has 13 kids on the waitlist for beds and a warehouse full of donations.
“Anytime of the day it doesn’t matter what time of the day it is if you need a safe place for your baby to sleep, we will answer that call,” said Roberts.
Roberts said cribs can be delivered the same day and beds are usually delivered on weekends.
“It’s heartbreaking because if we met this mom a week before we would have possibly been able to save this child’s life,” she added.
