News 9 Weather Team Tracks Storms Across Oklahoma

Chief Meteorologist David Payne and the News 9 Weather Team are tracking storms across the state Friday.

A tornado watch was issued Friday afternoon by the National Weather Service for six counties in southwestern Oklahoma.

Included in the watch are Comanche, Cotton, Greer, Harmon, Jackson and Jefferson counties. Several other counties were included in a severe thunderstorm watch in southern Oklahoma.

The tornado watch is set to last until 9 p.m.

Scattered showers and storms continue to move northeast around 30 mph across the state.

News 9 Storm Trackers Val and Amy Castor and Tom Pastrano spotted a tornado landing Friday in Vernon, Texas while tracking storms heading into Oklahoma.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Alfalfa, Garfield and Grant counties until 7, moving northeast around 30 mph. This storm has quarter-sized hail and gusts to 60 mph possible.

5:00 p.m. Updates:

The strongest storms in central Oklahoma have arrived in northwest Oklahoma, producing heavy downpours and quarter size hail.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Canadian, Grady and Oklahoma counties until 5:15.

Storms in south Oklahoma are moving northeast.
