Come to the Norman Farm Market, and you just might see the birth of a salesperson.
“I just finished selling, and it was pretty good, I earned $66," said 4th grader Madeline Hunnell.
Some of these kids may have only learned their ABC’s a few years ago, but they're learning how to always be closing through a new program offered by Loveworks.
“This is the time when they’re dreaming and using their imagination that we tap into these moments and give them actual real ways to express what they want to do," said Michael Hirsch, executive director of Loveworks Leadership.
Loveworks Leadership has been helping kids run their own businesses since 2011, but for the first time this year, the youth movement has gone to market.
It’s called the Business Boot-Up Program.
“A lot of the life skills that the students are receiving, the opportunity to talk with the general public, which really just instills self-esteem and building up their confidence," said Hirsch.
“It’s definitely helped me get out a lot out of my shell, helped me be able to talk to people easier, just be able to pitch a product to them easily,” said Corinne McKay, an 8th grader at Irving Middle School.
Products range from dog treats to salsa, and even interactive wrist bands.
Loveworks coaches the students on things like market research and the art of the pitch, setting up a successful future for these young entrepreneurs like nobody’s business.
“These are the next generation of leaders that are already making an impact in their communities, in the economy, and so look out for these dreamers and doers," said Hirsch says.
Loveworks will be at the Norman Farm Market every Saturday with a variety of products through the end of October.
