Singer-songwriter John Legend will headline the 'Remember and Rise' event on Memorial Day

The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission announced Friday that singer-songwriter John Legend will headline its 'Remember and Rise' event.

The Commission says Legend will speak and perform at ONEOK field on Memorial Day as a part of the "Remember and Rise" event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre.

John Legend is the first African American man to achieve EGOT distinction, having earned an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. Legend is also a philanthropist and supporter of criminal justice reform.

The event will feature speeches from national civic leaders and musical performances from other artists.

It will also honor guests including survivors and descendants of the Race Massacre.

Remember and Rise will take place on Monday, May 31st at ONEOK field and will be televised.
