Actors are in town and sets are still being built in the heart of Pawhuska for production of the Martin Scorsese-directed film “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
As parts of downtown Pawhuska transform to the 1920s, and you can feel the excitement everywhere you go.
Crews spent the morning covering downtown Pawhuska streets in dirt to resemble roads from 100 years ago, as onlookers from near and far gathered at barriers.
People were trying to snag a photo of Leonardo DiCaprio or Martin Scorsese, as they film the "Killers of the Flower Moon," based on the true story of the Osage murders.
"I'm the weirdo hanging out waving at Leo as drives by, and Scorsese's across the street," said Billie Kelley.
Kelley owns the Funky Pearl, a boutique steps away from where old cars, horses, and hundreds of extras are filming at a makeshift train station. It’s just one of the many scenes being filmed in the town.
She said she gets a front row seat to see her little town chugging back to life.
"The actors traveling up and down every day, it's been fascinating watching them build from the ground up," said Kelley.
"It's amazing with all the old cars and the train. It's just amazing," said Lalani Nagle, from Yukon.
Sheridan, Janean, Sue and baby Charlie drove from Wisconsin to check out Pawhuska.
"It's going to be great when we see the movie, we'll say we saw that building," said Janean Morrow.
Osage SkyNews 6 captured a bird's eye view of the sets and all the work being done. Crews put up signs, new windows, and spent all day spreading out dirt.
One extra said the actors have been nothing but nice to him and said the film crews are staying true to telling the story of the Osage people.
Now, the dirt is flattened, the scene is set, and crews are ready for more filming as they bring this story to life. With severe weather in the forecast, crews say they're keeping a close eye on everything, especially with all the dirt in the road.
