The Sons and Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold a remembrance event Memorial Day in honor of the Civil War Union soldiers who died.
Memorial Day celebrations date all the way back to 1866. One of the earliest ceremonies was held by freed slaves at the close of the Civil War for Union soldiers.
The first national commemoration of Memorial Day was held 1868 at Arlington National Cemetery.
The Civil War remains the deadliest military conflict in American history with more than 600,000 dead from both the Union and Confederacy.
Monday's ceremony will officially start at 10 a.m. at the Union Soldiers Cemetery near NE 36th and Martin Luther King Avenue.
