A woman is recovering after crews had to rescue her from a sandbar in the Arkansas River late Wednesday night. The Tulsa Fire Department said just after 11 p.m. Wednesday crews were called to the area of the river between the 11th and 21st St. bridges because someone thought a woman may be in the water.
They say a passerby is the one who called it in and when they arrived they saw a woman on a sand bar in the river.
TFD brought three boats to the scene, but only ended up putting one of the rafts in the water to do the job. They say they made it out to the woman, got her in the boat, and got her safely back to shore to be treated.
According to TFD, she went out on the sand bar and then got stuck because the water got too high to get back. Crews say they are not sure why she was out there in the first place, but she must have been in the water for several hours because she was sunburned.
EMSA treated her on the scene and say she is expected to be alright.
