An Oklahoma mother is relaunching her search for the person who killed her daughter, Brittany Phillips, 17 years ago.

Someone murdered Brittany Phillips in 2004. Now, her mother, Maggie Zingman, is using a special van to get the word out about her daughter's murder and make sure her killer is found.

The bright purples and pinks - plus Brittany Phillip's smile - on the van are hard to miss as drives her “Caravan to Catch a Killer:” a creative way she keeps her daughter’s story alive.

"She was always energetic, she was fearless," said Zingman.

Brittany was only 18 and in college when someone suffocated and raped her in a Tulsa apartment complex. There have been thousands of possible suspects but not one arrest.

In 2019, Zingman found out a DNA sample believed to be the killer was a false lead.

Zingman said she continues to fight for her strong, smart daughter, who she said would have changed the world.

"Even though I'm never going to stop trying, I have to realize we may never find her killer," said Zingman.

For years, Zingman has taken her wrapped vehicle across the country to share Brittany’s story at different cities and on highways. Last year, she wasn’t able to due to COVID-19.

“We all felt like we were frozen," Zingman said. "The cold cases got frozen during COVID.”

But this year, she needed a new van, and the podcast Casefile offered to pay for the cost of the new wrap. She is embarking on a new five-week nationwide journey in August.

“I began to connect to homicide families, police departments, detectives," said Zingman.

Zingman said the journey is more than just Brittany, it’s a way to connect to other families dealing with similar tragedies, and to tell people "no tip is too silly."

"I have to do it because I've learned in some ways, there is no closure," she said.
